I’m just leaving this here because I’ve unintentionally updated my blog’s theme (the old one now being lost forever). I am not used to it! I want my visitors to see a range of my work, not just the latest blog post (hairy, biker blokes in this particular instance) and so here are a fewContinue reading “Recent Work”
I just came back from a short trip to visit a friend who lives high in the Swiss Alps. My children skied on snow for the first time (and I marvelled at how fearless they were) and I skied – terrified and slowly – and despite all this activity (clearing paths, trying to build igloos)Continue reading “Saas Fee”
I did these for a small pop-up art fair in my home town. I got into the flow of it and PLAYED. Initially I had been drawing cool retro mugs (something else I like) but that just wasn’t going well. Clearly not organic enough. So I looked through some old sketchbooks and found these. TheyContinue reading “Christmas Cacti”
It’s been a difficult day to know where to focus my energy. The weather was awful, the house was a mess… it was hard to focus. Much of what I was doing did not go well. I had previously been looking through some old sketchbooks, and an image from one of them inspired this littleContinue reading “11 December 2017”
Matti is slowly becoming a book I am really proud of. It’s a much, much stronger book than it was when I first conceived of it in the Summer of 2015. I’m now working hard on getting a dummy ready for after Xmas, but especially for Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2018. Here areContinue reading “Developments with Matti”
So here she is – my favourite Left Hand Large Lady… updated for #colour_collective – a Twitter event (is that the expression?) – You post work at 19.30 each Friday, made using a colour that is specified on the previous Saturday. I had so much fun, I’ll probably do it again… so watch out for moreContinue reading “#Colour_Collective”
Who knows, perhaps there are groups dedicated to furthering the sport of naked trampolining; devoting their weekends to the free swinging of body parts, in various secret locations around the country. And why this subject matter? God only knows. Just that its fun. It makes me grin. Its playful – and that’s important.
I was thinking about an image to represent how the past 24 hours had been spent in the company of the damned black dog…
Because, well – why not? I might try some reportage work using my left hand. I think this would be the first time I’ve drawn from my imagination using my left hand. I will definitely be doing it some more. Any suggestions for subject matter?
My sketch today at The Horniman Museum & Gardens does rather look like a furry jacket-wearing man engaged in a very distasteful phone call. In fact it is a 19th century wooden Nikisi Power figure of the Kongo people (as you can see from my notes). The furry jacket is made from nails. Hand made ones, lots of them.Continue reading “Nikisi Power Figure”
