A friend of mine has started writing a blog, and the first subject on her list to write about was Bridgerton. I have created some illustrations to go with her writing. I have been learning to use ProCreate and these are also the first illustrations I have ever created that are fully digital. To beContinue reading “Bridgerton Illustrations”

Owning a ‘Pet’
I really enjoyed this ‘homework’ brief. It was set by Jo Byatt, a member of our local illustration group – we set ourselves small illustration briefs each month, the members take turns to set them. As Jo indicated when she set the brief, anything can be a ‘pet’. Hence the plants. I found this toContinue reading “Owning a ‘Pet’”
Unplugged
A little project for a very cool charity called London Play, and an event they are running called Unplugged in Enfield. This logo has been designed for a promotional badge, hence the bold colours and lines. I was asked to create a robot-child that was running free, hence the addition of a trailing USB.
Just Imagine Shelving
A recent project for Just Imagine Story Centre. You’ll see Imogen is here, from earlier days…
Frustrated Face-Palm Mum
I’m working on a lovely wee educational picture book with Oxford University Press at the moment. I’ve been busy with the roughs stage, and then its been Christmas – and I’m not sure how much I am allowed to say about the book just yet, so I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog recently. Yet thisContinue reading “Frustrated Face-Palm Mum”
Wildlife Mural at Thorndon
The mural is at Thorndon Country Park Visitor Centre, in Brentwood, Essex. It’s in the cafe, but you can’t see it from the cafe. If you’d like to take a look, you’d have to ask to peek in the Education Room. The room is used for children’s parties too, and it’s also used to store aContinue reading “Wildlife Mural at Thorndon”
To Pee or not to P
The meeting with Bloomsbury went well – but basically, for the foreseeable future I’m occupied by being a writer for that particular project. So this – I’m not sure how much I can say yet – but these wee-uncomfortable children are part of an initial stage of character development for a project that I hope I’ll be workingContinue reading “To Pee or not to P”
A Hairy Bean with Dreadlocks
I’ve not blogged for a while. This is mainly due to starting a new teaching job, which I am very much enjoying but is taking a fair bit of my time. I also have a fair few other self-employed jobs which I am also trying to find time for – so poor old Grotsby-Snot frequently getsContinue reading “A Hairy Bean with Dreadlocks”
Monsters and Dogs
My local illustrator’s group meets about once a month and we set each other briefs. Due to being on the MA I’ve been spectacularly bad at completing any of these mini-projects but I am determined to try now that the MA is finished (I got a distinction by the way, I’m pretty chuffed). Anyway ourContinue reading “Monsters and Dogs”
Babies: Spot the difference
Basically this is the same drawing rendered very slightly differently each time. This is the finicky kind of detail that illustrators spend hours obsessing about. I feel line drawing, in the context of book illustration anyway, is a bit unfashionable at the moment. Unfortunately it’s my strength. Well, not unfortunately; I love line and I am not preparedContinue reading “Babies: Spot the difference”
